9/10/2023 0 Comments Viltrox 85mm nikon z![]() So if you’re interested in how Viltrox’s second version of their 85mm f1.8 prime lens for mirrorless cameras performs, you’ve come to the right place!Īs usual I’ll have a look at the technical data of the new Viltrox AF 85mm f1.8 II first. I also included comparisons with the Sony FE 85mm f1.8 shot on a 42MP Sony A7R II. The Viltrox AF 85mm f1.8 II costs around 350-400 EUR / 400 USD / 340 GBP and presents a direct alternative to Sony’s FE 85mm f1.8, Nikon’s Z 85mm f1.8 S, and Fujifilm’s Fujinon XF 90mm 2.0 R LM WR.įor this review I tested the Viltrox AF 85mm f1.8 II on the 45MP Nikon Z7 camera to judge optical performance and quality of autofocus against the Nikon Z 85mm f1.8 S. To my knowledge this is the first – and currently only – third-party lens for Nikon Z-mount with autofocus – probably based on Viltrox’s experience with their Z-mount adapters. The first version of the Viltrox lens came out in 2019 and the Mark II became available from the beginning of 2021. When fitted to bodies with APSC sensors, like Fujifilm’s X-series, the Viltrox 85mm f1.8 becomes equivalent in angle-of-view and depth-of-field to a 128mm f2.5 lens. It is available in Sony E-mount, Nikon Z-mount, and Fujifilm’s X-mount. EF glass works better on my R than native FE glass did on some of my Sony bodies. The AF 85mm f1.8 II from the Chinese manufacturer Viltrox is a short telephoto lens designed for mirrorless cameras and corrected for full-frame sensors. All of this is part of why many people, including myself, left Sony for said competitors. all RF/Z 1st party glass ranges from good to excellent, and users have much better DSLR adapter support and functionality. And those competitors aren't even that dependent on 3rd parties. 3rd party brands have already started porting stuff to Sony's competitors despite the closed protocols. They still have a big gap to close to get to Sigma/Tamron.Īnd yea, Sony has the 3rd party advantage. Yes they are getting better, but there are still new lenses with issues (including the 45, which I had a great time with). I know some people got great copies of the 35 and swear by it, but I got not one but two clunkers. And in my experience with both, they suck. ![]() You want a 35/50 1.4, those are their current offerings. Expecting Sony to just handover their protocol for free to companies that could take away sales from their ecosystem is unreasonable even though I'd love for it to the age of Samyang's lenses are irrelevant. The other companies we know that reverse engineer fully are the adapter manufacturers. So slightly under half the companies have access to protocol, that not the same as "most" not having access We do not know to what extent other have or have not received help. Three of those who we know for a fact have access to the protocol. The companies making AF lenses for e-mount are Sigma, Tamron, Zeiss, Samyang, Tokina, Viltrox and recently Yongnuo. I imagine the deal varies from company to company. Sigma is not the only company, tamron and zeiss are also as valid an example as per my explanation Bolton I do not know on what basis they hand out the protocol. They do respond I don't see how your analogy is the same By your own admission Sony just do not ignore/delete any serious enquiries and requests.
